Choosing Bars

Diameter first. 1 inch and 1-1/4 inch bars need matching risers and control clamps. Many 1-1/4 inch bars are stepped down to 1 inch at the ends so stock controls still fit - check whether yours are.

Then dimensions. Rise, width and pullback together decide reach. A tall ape that looks right may put your hands above your shoulders, which gets tiring fast on a long day.

Then cables. Anything more than a couple of inches of extra rise usually needs extended brake lines, clutch cable and wiring. Budget for a handlebar install kit at the same time. Bars for throttle-by-wire bikes also need the correct internal wiring routing.
