How Much Extra Do You Need

Kits are sold by how much rise they accommodate over stock - a 4 inch kit is cut for bars roughly 4 inches taller than what came on the bike. Measure the actual rise difference rather than going by the bar's advertised height, since pullback changes the cable path too.

Stock cables will usually stretch an inch or two without complaint. Beyond that you get a brake line under tension at full lock, a clutch that will not fully disengage, or wiring pulled out of a connector - all of which are found the hard way.

Throttle-by-wire bikes need the wiring extension rather than throttle cables, and bars with internal wiring need the harness routed through before the bars go on.
