What An Emulator Actually Does

A conventional damper-rod fork controls damping through fixed holes in the damper rod, which is a compromise: firm enough for big hits means harsh over small ones. An emulator sits on top of the damper rod and adds a spring-loaded valve, so the fork can be soft over sharp edges and still resist bottoming. On an older Harley front end it is one of the biggest improvements available for the money.

Emulators are normally fitted alongside straight-rate springs chosen for your weight, which is why the springs and the emulators go together. Spring rate should be selected for rider weight and how the bike is loaded, not bought by model.

Before You Order
