Getting The Fit Right

A helmet only works if it fits. Measure the widest part of your head, just above the eyebrows and ears, and buy to the manufacturer's own size chart rather than to the size you wore in another brand - shell shapes and sizing differ enormously between makers.

A correctly fitted helmet is snug all the way around with no pressure points, does not rotate when you shake your head, and will feel slightly tighter than you expect when new. The liner packs down with use, so a helmet that is comfortable in the shop is often too big after a month.

Certification And Replacement

Each helmet's safety certification is stated by its manufacturer on the product page. Certification marks are the manufacturer's own claim and we do not add to or interpret them - check what a given helmet carries and what your state requires.

Replace a helmet after any impact, even one that leaves no visible damage, and follow the manufacturer's guidance on age. The protective liner degrades over time whether or not the helmet has been dropped.
