Most bagger fitment questions come down to two things: which engine is in the frame, and which side of the 2009, 2014 and 2017 changes your bike falls on.

Almost every fitment question on a bagger comes back to which engine is in the frame, because that decides exhaust, air cleaner, covers, cams and tuner all at once.

EVO '84-'99 — the last of the pushrod Evolution touring bikes
Twin Cam '99-'06 — Twin Cam 88 and 95, five speed
Twin Cam '07 and up — 96 and 103, six speed from '07
M8 Motor — Milwaukee-Eight, '17 and up

Three Years That Change What Fits

2009. The touring frame was redesigned. Chassis, rear fender and exhaust routing all changed, so a lot of pre-'09 hardware will not carry over.
2014. Project Rushmore reworked the fairings, brakes, clutch and electronics on Street Glide, Electra Glide and Road King. Road Glide sat out '14 and returned for '15.
2017. Milwaukee-Eight replaced the Twin Cam. Anything that touches the motor is a clean break at this year.

Common Questions

Will a Street Glide part fit a Road Glide? Often, but not through the front end. The two use different fairings and mounting, so anything forward of the risers needs checking. Motor, exhaust, bags and rear suspension usually cross over within the same year range.

My bike is a 2016 Street Glide. Twin Cam or M8? Twin Cam 103. The Milwaukee-Eight arrived on touring for 2017, so '16 and earlier is Twin Cam.

Do I need a tuner with a new exhaust? On a full system, effectively yes. Slip-ons are more forgiving, but any real airflow change wants a tune to go with it, or you leave power on the table and run lean.
