Softail Fitment

Softail covers '84-'17 - FXST, FLSTF Fat Boy, FLSTC Heritage, FXSTB Night Train, FLS Slim and FXSB Breakout. These are cable-throttle bikes. 2018 and up is the M8 Softail, a different platform - see M8 Softail Parts.

Years that change what fits:

• 2000 - the Softail took the Twin Cam, a year after Touring and Dyna.
• 2018 - the Milwaukee-Eight Softail replaced both the Softail and the Dyna on a new frame.

Buy The Gasket With The Job

Nothing is more frustrating than having the cover off and the bike apart, waiting on a five dollar part. Gasket kits are specified per motor family and often per year within it, and the material matters. A composite and an MLS head gasket are not interchangeable. Exhaust gaskets are a consumable: they crush to seal and should be replaced any time the pipes come off, which is also the usual cure for an exhaust leak that appeared after a service.
