Softail Fitment

Softail covers '84-'17 - FXST, FLSTF Fat Boy, FLSTC Heritage, FXSTB Night Train, FLS Slim and FXSB Breakout. These are cable-throttle bikes. 2018 and up is the M8 Softail, a different platform - see M8 Softail Parts.

Years that change what fits:

2000 - the Softail took the Twin Cam, a year after Touring and Dyna.
2018 - the Milwaukee-Eight Softail replaced both the Softail and the Dyna on a new frame.

Know Your Gearbox

Harley Big Twins ran a five-speed through 2006 and moved to the six-speed Cruise Drive for 2007 on Touring and Dyna; those two gearboxes share very little. The Sportster runs its own unit-construction transmission entirely. Clutch work has its own trap: a clutch that grips harder often needs stiffer springs, and stiffer springs mean a heavier lever pull unless the kit is designed around it.
