BAKER's answer to the stock throwout bearing, with 97 percent more surface area and 77 percent more static load capacity.
The throwout bearing sits between your clutch cable and the pressure plate, and every pull of the lever loads it. On a cable clutch big twin it is a known failure point, and when it goes it takes the ball ramp with it and leaves you with a clutch that will not release. BAKER developed this kit specifically around that failure: a bearing with 97 percent greater surface area spreads the same load over far more contact, and the 77 percent higher static load rating is what carries a heavier clutch spring or an aggressive rider without brinelling.
Features of the BAKER Heavy Duty Throwout Bearing Kit
- Developed to address the failures of the stock clutch throwout bearing
- 97 percent greater surface area than the stock bearing
- 77 percent greater static load capacity than the stock bearing
- Built for abusive and high performance applications
- Includes the throwout bearing, ball ramp actuator with balls, snap rings and gaskets
- Made in the U.S.A.
Heavy Duty Throwout Bearing Kit Fitment
- '87-'23 Harley-Davidson Bagger, Softail and Dyna with a mechanical cable clutch
⚠️ VERIFY that your bike runs a cable clutch and not a hydraulic one. A hydraulic clutch uses a slave cylinder instead of a ball ramp and throwout bearing, so this kit does not apply.
Common Questions About the Throwout Bearing Kit
How do I know mine has failed?
The usual signs are a clutch that drags or will not fully release, a gritty or notchy feel at the lever, and metal in the primary fluid. A failed throwout bearing rarely gets better on its own.
Is the ball ramp included?
Yes. The kit is the bearing, the ball ramp actuator with its balls, the snap rings and the gaskets, which is everything on that side of the job.
Do I need this on a stock bike?
Not necessarily, but it is the sensible part to fit when you are already in there for a clutch pack or a heavier spring, since both raise the load this bearing carries.
