The Baker Direct Drive 7-Speed Gear Set replaces the factory Cruise Drive 6-speed in a '06-'17 Dyna, adding an overdrive seventh gear with no case work.
A Twin Cam Dyna making 96, 103 or 110 cubic inches produces more torque than a six speed can put to good use. The seventh gear is about gear ratio management: giving that torque somewhere useful to go rather than leaving gaps between the ratios you actually ride in. Baker built it to slide into the bike as it sits.
How the DD7 Dyna Gear Set Is Built
The stock mainshaft carries first through fourth gear. The DD7 mainshaft carries only the small first gear, making it substantially lighter, and that is the reason shift clunk drops noticeably. First is shortened and everything above it tightened, so acceleration stays continuous from first through fourth. A linear roller ball detent in the supplied billet top cover handles shift feel. Door bearings run 28 percent wider than stock.
ARP 12-point bolts ship for the door, top cover and stock side cover, along with a Baker re-cal box and leads. The stock shifter pawl is reused. No case modification, no shimming, no adjustment. Made in the USA.
