The Baker Direct Drive 6-Speed Gear Set in black finish fits '90-'97 Big Twins and '90-'94 FXR models, adding a sixth gear to existing 5-speed cases.

This is the black finish version of Baker's '90-'97 gear set, and the finish choice matters more than it sounds. On an Evo era bike with a black primary and black powdercoated cases, a polished trap door stands out in a way not everyone wants. Mechanically it is the same overdrive: a .86:1 sixth on top of a 3.24:1 first, dropping cruising rpm on a motor that predates any factory six speed by a decade.

How the Baker Gear Set Is Built

All gears are full width Baker ground gears cut from 8620 steel before heat treating, then precision ground with diamond coated tooling for quiet running. Fourth, fifth and sixth are helical cut. The bearing door is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum with wider bearings and retainer plates in place of stock snap rings, and a Redundant Neutral Smooth Shift System handles engagement.
