Direct Drive 6-Speed Gear Set / '90-'97 Big Twin Polished

The Baker Direct Drive 6-Speed Gear Set adds a sixth gear inside your existing '90-'97 five speed cases, dropping cruising rpm without a transmission swap.

Highway rpm is what wears out riders on older Big Twins. A stock five speed leaves the motor spinning harder than it needs to at seventy, and the vibration that comes with it is cumulative. Baker's answer avoids replacing the transmission: the gear set fits the cases already in your bike and adds an overdrive sixth on top of the ratios you have.

How the Baker Gear Set Is Built

All gears are full width Baker ground gears, cut from 8620 steel before heat treating and then precision ground with diamond coated tooling. Fourth, fifth and sixth are helical cut for quiet running, which is the difference between an overdrive you enjoy and one you hear all day. The bearing door is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and uses wider bearings with retainer plates in place of the stock snap rings. A redundant neutral smooth shift system handles engagement.

The kit ships with a 28 tooth motor sprocket, a longer primary chain, an adjusting shoe, a fixed spindle shift drum, an anti overshift ratchet and clear instructions. Made in the USA, polished finish.
